Details :

Wing Commander Kanwal Krishan Malik has been the Officer-in-Charge Flying at an operational Wing for over two years. During this period he has shouldered the task of supervising the operations of Fighter Squadrons, helicopter unit, Aircrew Examining Board and numerous flight trials. Unmindful of his personal comfort, he was always ready to shoulder fresh responsibilities. The year 1971 mainly saw him fully occupied with his duties as Station Commander of a forward base, where, working under the most trying conditions, he infused enthusiasm and an offensive spirit by his high professional ability and personal supervision and guidance. The excellent results achieved by his unit in the operations in December, 1971 were, in the main, largely due to his stewardship.

Throughout, Wing Commander Kanwal Krishan Malik displayed courage and leadership.

Squadron Leader Parduman Kumar Jain, the Senior Air Traffic Control Officer at one of the Air Force Wings, has discharged his responsibilities with exceptional resourcefulness and outstanding devotion to duty. He has been a pioneer in the establishment of the Ground Control Approach system and other Radio/Radar Communications which are so vital to the safety of aircraft operating in the Kashmir valley. Despite tremendous shortcomings, extremely inclement weather conditions and various other privations, he has stood up to all such difficulties without regard to his personal comfort or rest. By his personal example and determination to fulfill the tasks allotted to him, he has proved himself to be an outstanding Air Traffic Operations Officer.

This officer even as early in 1962, during his tenure in operational area has displayed the same quality of setting an excellent example to others and also devotion to duty under trying circumstances. The efforts and work of Sqn. Ldr. Jain have repeatedly been recognised by Civil and other Governmental agencies. For example Indian Airlines Corporation have expressed in writing their appreciations for his outstanding work.

Squadron Leader Parduman Kumar Jain is an officer who has consistently maintained an exceptionally high standard in his work in the interest of the Service.

Details :

Group Captain PPS Sandhu was commissioned in the Engineering Branch on 14 Jan 71. He has excelled himself exceedingly well in varied aspects of his profession. He set up overhaul lines of AI 20M and TV-2-117A engines at No. 3 Base Repair Depot. He has been the Senior Technical Officer of a MiG-23 BN squadron. An alumnus of Defence Services Staff College, he was specially selected as the leader of IAF Training Team in Botswana. He was appointed Chief Engineering Officer of Air Force Station, Hindon in Feb 95.

At Air Force Station, Hindon, he improved Aircraft serviceability to the highest in the fleet. He initiated rectifications and repairs which were earlier done by HAL, thereby reducing aircraft down time. With his expertise he recovered six aircraft on prolonged unserviceability. He also effected considerable saving by manufacturing the air intake blankings in station workshop. He extended his professional knowledge by recovering a large number of unserviceable missiles with indigenous repairs thereby saving foreign exchange.

For distinguished services of a high order, the President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Gp Capt Parminder Pal Singh Sandhu.
